2010 - 2011 STATISTICS
The Saskatoon Sexual Assault & Information Centre provides direct services to approximately 500 - 600 new clients annually. From April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2011, SSAIC served 563 new clients: this is 11% more clients than in the previous year.
This number reflects all forms of sexual violence including child sexual abuse, adult sexual assault, incest and sexual harassment.
SSAIC provided over 653 follow-up counselling sessions and telephone contacts with clients, for a total of 1,216 client contacts in this fiscal year.
Types of Abuse:
- 26.3% sexual assault and abuse
- 36.2% adult survivor of child sexual abuse
- 23.2% incest or child sexual abuse
- 3.6% domestic violence
- 1.9% sexual harassment
- 8.8% other (sexual exploration, sexual acting out by children,etc.)
Of the 563 new clients in 2010-2011:
- 79.4% were female
- 20.6% were male
Plus:
- 23.8% were children and youth (0-17 years old)
- 76.2% we adults
Who are the Offenders:
Of the 335 clients who provided information, the offenders were identified as:
Intimate / relational
- Friend / acquaintance - 27.8%
- Date / present partner - 6.3%
- Former partner - 3.0%
Familial
- Biological parent - 16.7%
- Functional parent - 3.9%
- Sibling - 4.8%
- Other relative - 10.2%
Other
- Stranger - 13.0%
- Clergy - 2.4%
- Teacher/Professor - 1.5%
- Co-Worker - .9%
- Job supervisor - 1.5%
