STATISTICS

The Saskatoon Sexual Assault & Information Centre provides direct services to approximately 500 - 600 new clients annually. From April 2007 to March 2008, we served about 500 new clients.

This number reflects all forms of sexual violence including child sexual abuse, adult sexual assault, incest and sexual harassment.

SSAIC provided over 500 follow-up counselling sessions and telephone contacts with clients, for a total of 1,003 client contacts in this fiscal year.

Types of Abuse:
  • 34.2% sexual assault and abuse
  • 27.8% adult survivor of child sexual abuse
  • 20.4% incest or child sexual abuse
  • 2.7% domestic violence
  • 2.2% sexual harassment
  • 12.7% other (sexual exploration, sexual acting out by children,etc.)
Of the 500 new clients in 2007-2008:
  • 84.8% were female
  • 15.2% were male
Plus:
  • 21.7% were children and youth (0-17 years old)
  • 78.3% we adults
Who are the Offenders:
Of the clients who provided information, the offenders were identified as:
    Intimate / relational
  • Friend / acquaintance - 28.7%
  • Date / present partner - 8.1%
  • Former partner - 4.7%
        • = 41.5%
    Familial
  • Biological parent - 14.1%
  • Functional parent - 2.6%
  • Sibling - 6.4%
  • Other relative - 9.8%
        • = 32.9%
    Other
  • Stranger - 11.1%
  • Other - 9.4%
  • Teacher/Professor - .4%
  • Babysitter - 1.7%
  • Co-Worker - 1.3%
  • Job supervisor - 1.7%
